Game of Thrones ran out of source material after the fifth season. Careful what you wish for, that's all I'm gonna say. There's still plenty of source material. They're just choosing to not use it. I'd rather they keep the same cast and make it an anthology series with each season covering a different book. Instead, they're telling a story that already had a good ending and has already lost some of its best characters. They're continuing the Shogun story without additional source material from that particular story to pull from. His Asian series went from 15-1600s Japan (Shogun) through about 1980 (Whirlwind). The only other book set in Japan was in the (1860s(?), 10-20 years after Tai Pan). Keeping the same cast over a 400 year time frame scattered around the globe...I'd actually be curious how they'd manage that. Keeping the same general time frame but with a new story is the way to go (assuming good writers who understand/respect JC's universe) Snapper Carr (4) Funniest 30 minutes ago You got The Glow, subby! Spoiler alert, dude. Spoiler alert. (0) Funniest 33 minutes ago We have regular Disney+, which includes a small sliver of Hulu, as a treat. Thing is, their content churn for the Hulu section is far more rapid than I was expecting. I figured this out because I needed a show to watch, they had Shogun, and I had heard good things about it, so I started watching at my usual pace (one episode a night). I made it to the point where out of nowhere the dude's kid decided to publicly murder a bunch of dudes from the opposition. It happens at the end of an episode about halfway through the season. And then they refreshed the Hulu section and Shogun went away. This was my Alf Series Finale-esque experience with Shogun story. thealgorerhythm (4) Funniest 33 minutes ago Magnus Eisengrim: Hopefully we'll get "Shogun in Space" fairly soon. It's heavily inspired by The Final Countdown. An aircraft carrier mysteriously appears, Blackthorne takes command and wages war on Toranaga's enemies. By 1610 Adams, the inspiration for the Shogun story, was official trade advisor and translator to the Shogun, had an estate and a pretty little Japanese wife, and a couple of kids. Also math teacher and geography teacher to the Shogun's children and grandchildren. So it can be assumed he spoke the language pretty well. (0) Funniest less than a minute ago I need to get around to watching Shogun. I've always been fascinated with that time in history, but there's SOOO much good TV right now! The Last of US is amazing, Andor is now, in my mind, officially the best thing in the Star Wars universe...I don't have the bandwidth to watch Shogun. ;) MrSplifferton (0) Funniest less than a minute ago Weatherkiss: They ran out of source material after the first season. I read that book with my wife while she was pregnant with our daughter, that's why her middle name is Mariko, she's 16 now...... Are they expecting new chapters??? cynicalbastard (0) Funniest less than a minute ago Adams had it so good in Japan even when he was allowed to leave he more or less weighed up the odds of getting home safely, thought about his nice hot tub and daily backrubs from a pretty Japanese gal and said more or less "Screw it, I can learn to like sushi."
